Feed your SAP Analytics Cloud with data from SAP Business Objects using this new connector

The latest current platform version of SAP BusinessObjects 4.3 SP2 can already be installed with the new edition of the connector for SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) called Live Data Connect 3.4. This connector allows cloud users to consume real data from SAP Analytics Cloud — from both WebIntelligence documents and Universes — in a more agile and secure way than ever before.

In this article, we will explain the new functionality offered by Live Data Connect 3.4 and how to install it successfully.

INSTALLATION TIPS

The essential idea of this connector and how to install it in an agile way are covered in the following previous articles.

We’ve covered the basics of installing and configuring the Live Data Connect 3.4 connector in previous articles, focusing on achieving an efficient and agile implementation to minimize time-to-value. For step-by-step instructions on getting started with the new connector in as little as 20 minutes, read the following guide:

WHAT’S NEW?

What SAP has done since those initial releases is to provide improvements in stability and reliability and also the following tangible end-user benefits:

  • Increased security with SSL support

  • Enhanced reporting and auditing

  • Better usability with the possibility of drill-down

On the engine side, the following technical improvements have been made:

  • More robust architecture, eliminating the dependency on Restful service

  • Increased security, allowing only the jks format for the SSL keystore

  • Greater privacy, as the SSL password can be stored in a concealable file

At the installation level, the process is practically the same, with minor changes in the configuration area, specifically in the LDC.properties file:

  • Delete the line "boe.restsdk.url="

  • Populate the "boe.nameserver=" parameter with the following server data: "SERVERNAME:PORT"

  • Use a keystore of type jks in "connector.https.keystore.file=", specifically ".jks", as any other format is no longer supported

  • Change "connector.https.keystore.password=" to "connector.https.keystore.password.file=", and enter the password in a text file

CONCLUSION

The combination of the latest versions of SAP Analytics Cloud, Live Data Connect and SAP BusinessObjects is rich in new functionality and provides great stability to any hybrid environment of SAC & SAP BO with the help of the LDC 3.4 connector, which is ready to be used in production environments — no longer just for demos!
